Weavers Way provides 13 new high-specification homes, including affordable dwellings, in the historic village of Sandford, Devon.
As well as crafting individual homes with exceptional build quality, the project took great care over integrating the development with the village and surrounding landscape to support healthy, balanced lifestyles. First launched in Summer 2019, the project involved close collaboration between Belfield Developments and Grainge Architects to set a benchmark for new small-scale residential developments through contextual design, exceptional sustainability, and genuine community value.
Architecturally, Weavers Way balances contextual sensitivity with confident, modern design. A rigorous contextual analysis and meaningful engagement with local residents informed the material palette and form. The use of stone, render and timber respects the heritage and identity of the village, while window proportions are inspired by the Georgian sash windows of nearby properties. The result is a development that feels rooted in place while offering contemporary, energy-efficient homes. At a macro scale, the architecture and landscaping is designed to create a positive, characterful edge to the development in long views, enhancing the local landscape rather than disrupting it.
