Riversmeet House

Contemporary river-side home.

The new boat-house/pavilion, at the confluence of the Rivers Exe and Clyst, reinstates an earlier Victorian quay and rebuilds the dilapidated riverside wall. The contemporary design successfully marries the history of this spot to present-day living and makes full use of the spectacular southward estuary views. The project, within the garden of the Grade II listed Riversmeet House, is part of extensive improvements to the property by Grainge Architects, including restoration of the “widow’s tower”.

Development of the design involved liaison with the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) – a licence being required to build within the tidal zone. The site is also immediately adjacent to an RSPB nature reserve, hence liaison on conservation, ecological and flood-risk issues was of high importance.
