This new self build house at Lympstone enjoys spectacular southerly views across the village towards the River Exe. The site adjoins both the estuary and the Lympstone Conservation Area, requiring sensitive design and negotiations with the local community and planning authority in order both to respect its surroundings and make the most of its unique location.
The design concept successfully balances open-plan spatial / living requirements and energy efficiency with a contemporary modernist aesthetic . Key elements of the design include a southerly aspect for all the principal living spaces (akin to a traditional Devon Longhouse), a thermally massive structure, high-performance solar control glazing and insulation exceeding current Building Regulation requirements.
