Substantial family home with expansive estuary views.
This new house at Lympstone enjoys spectacular southerly views across the Exe Estuary. The site adjoins both the estuary and the Lympstone Conservation Area, requiring sensitive design and negotiations with the local community and planning authority in order both to respect its surroundings and make the most of its unique location.
The design concept successfully balances open-plan spatial requirements with an aesthetic that is contemporary but not overtly modernist. Key elements of the design include a southerly aspect for all the principal living spaces, a thermally massive structure, high-performance solar control glazing and insulation exceeding current Building Regulation requirements.
