A new indoor pool, meeting a long-standing community need while setting a sustainable and integrated architectural standard at the town’s gateway.
This project, an addition to Dartmouth’s existing leisure centre, provides a new 4-lane 25m indoor swimming pool together with a learner pool and all associated support facilities (wcs, shower and changing rooms, offices, plant etc), responding to a long-standing need for the town of Dartmouth and the surrounding area.
The building forms part of a ‘gateway’ into Dartmouth and as such has been designed to integrate positively with the existing buildings and the landscape.
Measures for sustainability have been taken including higher than usual level of thermal insulation combined with high thermal mass, use of solar PV panels, and good use of natural daylight.
