A sensitive remodelling and extension and large basement extension to a listed manor house in the countryside.
The proposal included comprehensive spa facilities including a 20m pool, treatment room, jacuzzi and gym facilities. Due to tight planning constraints the building is recessed into the gardens, forming a series of sunken courtyards and terraces that lead up to an extensive green roof which its integrated into the wider landscape of the estate. Externally, ‘paired-back’ stone facades reference the classical principles of the existing house.
An existing walled courtyard and glasshouse has been re-established adjoining the listed building to renew the properties former grandeur and further enhance the setting of the manor house. The design has been carefully co-ordinated at all scales, from the exterior stonework to the finely detailed joinery. We worked closely with William Garvey furniture designers and makers in order to ensure a seamless and considered approach throughout. High specification gym, changing and swimming pool facilities show the attention to detail that was given throughout.
