This self build project for a new dwelling in Lympstone, Devon combines a contemporary aesthetic with a highly sustainable design approach. The concept builds upon the tradition of the Devon Long House minimising energy usage through orientating the building correctly in a linear form in an East West direction.
Through a combination of a highly insulated airtight external envelope, photovoltaic & solar thermal panels & an air source heat pump ensures the building both retains & generates almost all its own energy from March through to November only needing supplementary energy in the coldest winter months.
The design includes an integrated annex for an elderly family member, a basement games area & highly flexible adaptable living areas with moving walls. Zinc cladding, technical render, high performance aluminium windows & extensive green roofs all combined to give the building a distinctive modern feel.
