New housing, integrated into and reflecting the distinctive urban grain of this ancient moorland town. Buildings are arranged along a primary route presenting long street facades, with access off to pockets of looser development. Quality landscaped public space is a key element, incorporating the existing water-course and much of the former tin workings.
The master-plan evolved through an extensive programme of local and statutory consultations, which emphasised the importance of provision of green pockets and play-spaces, valuing of the town’s industrial heritage and reflecting its unique moorland/urban character, as well as simply providing a quantity of new houses.
