Appledore Fishdock

Bideford, North Devon, UK.

Situated on an existing working dockside this new facility, funded by SW Regional Development Agency, is intended to support long-term protection of North Devon's fishing industry.  The scheme was developed with close involvement of the local fishing community, and provides facilities for fish landing, processing, ice-making, re-fuelling.

The design allows for fast and efficient turn-around to cope with the tidal restrictions of the Torridge Estuary. The building provides a public viewing point to encourage public awareness of the industry, and the building aesthetic reflects the function in its use of robust materials.  It achieves a BREEAM "Excellent" rating.
