Richmond Dock, Appledore

An alternative scheme to the contemporary approach featured in our "Housing" section, this proposal was developed in liaison with English Heritage and the local Conservation Officer.  It provides water-side housing, retail space and extended public realm adjacent to the Grade II listed dry-dock.

The proposals represent an interpretation of earlier dock-side ware-housing which photographic records indicate once occupied this site.  This is reflected in the materials used, detailed features and overall form and proportions.

The design creatively incorporates the requirements of the Environment Agency for raised anti-flooding bund walls and raised floor levels, to accommodate future effects of climate-change on sea levels.
