The X Centre, Former Dry House, Exeter

The existing 15C wool-drying shed was one of a small number of surviving buildings in this quayside development area, which while Grade II listed was in an extreme state of disrepair.  Conversion work to provide the community / training elements of Exeter Foyer (featured in our "Housing" section) involved virtual rebuild, preserving important structural elements and carried out in detailed consultation with the local authority Conservation Officer and Archaeologist.

The design details included innovative methods for allowing the existing structural elements to continue a meaningful role - not simply retained as cosmetic facing to modern structural intervention.
