Foyer Community Project, Frome

Winner of a RIBA Housing Design Award, this development for the YMCA provided accommodation for deprived young people in a newly constructed building, linked to related adjacent community facilities in a converted listed foundry building in the Conservation Area.

Construction was complex due to the steep nature of the site - the buildings range over 5 storeys.  The potentially conflicting requirements for security and congenial living environment were resolved through careful planning and use of natural materials.
